Ever since the Lumière brothers brought their Cinematograph around the globe, documentary filmmakers have sought ways to immerse viewers in the spectacle of reality. The recent interest in virtual reality reveals a desire to reduce this impulse to the size of a smartphone screen. But in the films featured in this all-documentary edition of See It Big!, the size of the screen and the nature of the collective theatrical experience are vital.
