 In Farsi with English subtitles. In the Turkmen language\, the word Atlan 
 means “get on your horse and get going.” Karimoddini’s film details the st
 ory of young trainer\, Ali\, who has raised and trained his orphaned Ilhad
  horse for three years. They start winning horse races and are favored to 
 win the championship\; however\, Ilhan suddenly becomes wild and unmanagea
 ble\, refusing to even leave the starting gate. Ali undergoes intense “re-
 training” with Ilhad\, but is forced to sell him to pay for his own alread
 y-delayed wedding. Throughout his struggles\, the bond with his favorite h
 orse is never shaken. Preceded by White Mane (Dir. Albert Lamorisse. 1952\
 , 39 mins. 35mm). A gang of ranchers try to capture and tame the magnifice
 nt leader of a herd of wild horses\, but only Folco\, a young fisherman\, 
 is able to ride him. White Mane won numerous awards upon its release\, inc
 luding the Short Film Palme d'Or at the 1953 Cannes Film Festival. Recomme
