DESCRIPTION:\n	With director Kirsten Johnson and editor Nels Bangerter in p
erson \n\n\n	Dir. Kirsten Johnson. 2016\, 103 mins. DCP. What does it mean
to film another person? How does it affect that person\, and what does it
do to the one who films? A boxing match in Brooklyn\, life in postwar Bos
nia and Herzegovina\, the daily routine of a Nigerian midwife\, an intimat
e family moment at home: These scenes and others are woven into Camerapers
on\, a tapestry of footage captured over the 25-year career of documentary
cinematographer Kirsten Johnson. Through a series of elliptical\, free-as
sociative episodes\, Johnson explores the relationships between image make
rs and their subjects\, as well as the tension between the objectivity and
intervention of the camera\, in a work that combines documentary\, autobi
ography\, and ethical inquiry. Cameraperson is both a moving glimpse into
one filmmaker’s personal journey and a thoughtful examination of what it m
eans to train a camera on the world. Nominated for five Cinema Eye Honors\
, and the Gotham Award for Best Documentary. “Unlike anything you’ve seen
before….A remarkably intimate film\, and a critique of the idea that there
is anything impersonal or objective in photography.”—A.O. Scott\, The New
York Times. Preceded by The Above (Dir. Kirsten Johnson. 2015\, 8 mins.)
