DESCRIPTION:\n	With Rob Epstein in conversation with David France \n\n\n	Di
 r. Rob Epstein. 1984. 90 mins. Narrated by Harvey Fierstein. A true twenti
eth-century trailblazer\, Harvey Milk was an outspoken human rights activi
st and one of the first openly gay U.S. politicians elected to public offi
ce. Even after his assassination in 1978\, he continues to inspire disenfr
anchised people around the world. Rob Epstein's The Times of Harvey Milk\,
winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1985\, echoed its gro
undbreaking subject by being one of the first feature documentaries to add
ress gay life in America\, and brought Milk’s message of hope and equality
to a wider audience. Constructed from both original documentary material
and archival footage\, the film is a portrait of both grassroots heroism a
t its most enduring and of American life at a singular time and place--San
Francisco’s historic Castro District in the '70s. The Times of Harvey Mil
k is the 2017 recipient of the Cinema Eye Honors' Legacy Award\, recognizi
ng classic films that inspire a new generation of filmmakers. Following th
e screening\, Epstein will participate in a conversation with David France
