 mmer of 2015\, legendary musician David Byrne staged an event at Brooklyn'
 s Barclays Center to celebrate the art of color guard: synchronized dance 
 routines involving flags\, rifles\, and sabers. The idea was to match colo
 r guard teams from across North America with acts such as St. Vincent\, Ne
 lly Furtado\, Devonté Hynes\, tUnE-yArDs\, Ad-Rock\, and Ira Glass\, all o
 f whom created original music that they then performed as live accompanime
 nt at the show. For their part\, acclaimed documentary filmmakers the Ross
  Brothers (Western\, Tchoupitoulas\, 45365) went beyond merely recording t
 hese performances and built upon them for this beguilingly immersive\, kal
 eidoscopic film. The viewer is thrust onto the floor and hustled backstage
 \, and shown everything from candid moments between the stars and their te
 en collaborators to color-soaked fever-dream depictions of the performance
 s themselves. Like the event it chronicles\, Contemporary Color is a conce
 rt/theater film unlike any other. Winner of Best Cinematography and Best E
