DESCRIPTION:\n	Author Michael Benson’s illustrated presentation (1:00 p.m.)
precedes the screening (2:00 p.m.). Book signing follows. \n\n\n	Dir. Sta
nley Kubrick. 1968\, 149 mins. (plus intermission). 70mm print from Warner
Bros. With Keir Dullea. As brilliantly engineered as the space program it
self\, Stanley Kubrick’s mysterious and profound epic—“the ultimate trip”—
is about nothing less than the beauty and the banality of civilization\, b
lending cool satire\, passages of avant-garde cinematic inventiveness\, an
d an elaborate vision of the future. The celebrated new 70mm print\, super
vised by Christopher Nolan\, was struck from new printing elements made fr
om the original camera negative. \n\n\n	Michael Benson’s exhaustively rese
arched and beautifully written Space Odyssey: Stanley Kubrick\, Arthur C.
Clarke and the Making of a Masterpiece (Simon &amp\; Schuster\, 2018) may
be the definitive book on Stanley Kubrick’s film. Prior to a 70mm screenin
g of the film\, Benson will make a special presentation talk about the cre
ation of 2001: A Space Odyssey\, using clips\, still images\, and newly di
scovered Polaroids by Kubrick. He will also examine the film’s uncanny pre
dictions of today’s minimalist devices and artificial intelligence. \n\n\n
